FPT Edu has successfully become CDIO member

At the end of April 2017, FPT University was formally recognized as a CDIO Association member. When approaching the most cutting-edge training model in the world to improve educational quality to meet the needs of society and international integration.

Previously, in March, representatives from FPT University traveled to Thailand to provide a presentation to the CDIO Association, which included Mr. Huynh Van Bay and Ms. Ho Thi Thao Nguyen. FPT University’s President, Dr. Le Truong Tung, and Rector, Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh, accompanied the team during their trip to Thailand.

FPT Edu first approached the CDIO philosophy in the first national CDIO conference (August 2012) organized by VNU-HCM five years ago. Then, curriculum development experts attended the CDIO Asia conference in March 2013 at Singapore Polytechnic. From these insights, FPT University modified its programs and procedures to apply to the Association.

“Despite our thorough preparation, we couldn’t help but feel anxious and scared when we stood up to present. I wasn’t able to exhale with satisfaction until I got back to Vietnam, finished the comprehensive application required by the evaluation board, and got the final results.” Ms. Nguyen said.

She claims that becoming a member of CDIO is essential for FPT Education since it provides a reliable methodology and foundation for approaching quality accreditation. FPT Education has the chance to improve faculty exchanges, international collaboration, learning and teaching activities, and curriculum development by participating in regional and global CDIO community connections.

FPT University is the 5th university in Vietnam to become a member of CDIO after Vietnam National University (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Lat University, Duy Tan University, and Thu Dau Mot University.

The CDIO Association has officially welcomed more than 120 members since its establishment in 2000. Education institutions must pass numerous examination rounds, provide all the supporting documentation, and then defend themselves in front of the evaluation board to join the association.

CDIO determines the learning outcomes on which the curriculum will be designed. This method can be used in various training sectors because it is constructed logically and scientifically. The CDIO syllabus and CDIO standards are the two primary tenets of the CDIO concept. CDIO, Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate, is an acronym for conceptual design, implementation, and operation. CDIO is an initiative that comes from the idea of the engineering departments of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, in collaboration with Swedish universities. This approach supports the determination of two important matters: Teach what? and How to teach?
