Faculty exchange with Ural Federal University (Russia)

As part of the collaboration between the two universities, Dr. Tran Duc Chung, an information technology lecturer at FPT University (Hanoi), worked at Ural Federal University (UrFU – Russia) from July 7–14, 2019.

Dr. Chung participated in Ideathone-2019 during the exchange period to discuss his expertise using technologies related to AI, Big Data Analytics, Pipe Fault Detection, Heat Reduction of Power Plants, and Waste Collection of Steel Plants to address real-world issues. He also coached students, international students from India and France joined the summer camp, through activities on energy-related themes, and taught them Python programming skills using Google Colab/Jupyter.

Additionally, he worked with professors from UrFU’s Faculty of High Productivity Computer Technologies. He specifically had in-depth conversations about deep learning for medical image processing and industrial data sciences with Profs. Andrey Sozykin and Profs. Anton Koshelevon. They shared their knowledge of applied research to detect lung diseases, where UrFU has created a system for automatically identifying lung diseases based on chest X-rays. The disease recognition model is computed by the system using a supercomputer. While Dr. Chung demonstrated a visualization technique for disease-infected areas based on UrFU-developed disease detection attributes.

Additionally, he had a lengthy discussion with Prof. Stanislov Evoshenko and Prof. Alexandra Khalyasmaa on the use of artificial intelligence to diagnose the condition of equipment in power plants and forecast how much electricity will be generated from solar energy.
