Nguyen Minh Uyen (born in 2000) secured a position with a French company specializing in the production and distribution of high-quality vegetable seeds, thanks to the knowledge and skills she accumulated during her university years.
The top graduate of the Economics block in 2022 at FPT University, Uyen had previously earned a full four-year scholarship, achieved the highest academic performance in the Economics group in the Spring 2019 semester, ranked in the top 5 students in consecutive semesters, and won second prize at the FPT Edu Research Festival for scientific research.
Currently, she holds the position of Marketing Communications Specialist at a company under a French corporation. Uyen is responsible for all marketing communications activities of the company in the Vietnamese market, including brand building, campaign implementation, event management, digital marketing, e-commerce, and creating communication materials.
She shared that working in agricultural communications in general and the seed industry in particular is a quite new experience. For many students studying communications or marketing, this is an ideal job opportunity to hone their skills and knowledge in marketing communications and to interact and learn from international colleagues.
After nearly four years of working, Uyen realizes that what she learned at university serves as a foundation for her to continue building her knowledge and skills over time. FPT University provided her with two important things for a long-term career: an active learning method and good relationships.
The FPT University alumna recounted that from her first year, she was guided on how to self-study to actively update her knowledge. “I absorbed additional knowledge from broad sources like social media, especially LinkedIn, courses, and more specific sources like competitor activities, management, and international colleagues,” Uyen said.
Minh Uyen always proactively connected with lecturers, classmates, seniors, companies, and external organizations to complete real-world projects in the curriculum. Currently, she continues to connect with juniors and sees great potential in the younger generation.
Additionally, she started working full-time from her second year, balancing the pressure from the company while maintaining her studies. That period created “pushes” for her to transform, accumulate foundational knowledge, soft skills, enrich her experience, and shape her personal brand.
“Whenever someone questions the discrepancy between the number of graduation years and years of work experience, I proudly explain FPT University’s policy of supporting students who secure official employment contracts before graduation,” Uyen shared.
Minh Uyen is also the host of the podcast channel “My Heart Garden.” This is where the “word lover” shares topics she finds interesting, hoping to bring joy or motivation to those around her.
The podcast channel was inspired by students from FPT University. She once did a project and scientific research on sex education and was later invited by juniors to participate in a talk show on a related topic.
“After that, the positive feedback provided me with quite a bit of ‘fuel’ to start my own small project,” Uyen recounted.
