Through major investment and cooperation programs, FPT Corporation is contributing to build a path of becoming international AI experts for young Vietnamese.
At the FPT AI Conference (FAIC) 2021, the talk “Preparing to become international AI expert” provided the youth valuable advice to pursue a promising career in the AI field.
Journey to become AI expert
Sharing about the roadmap in learning and capacity development to succeed in AI career, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phong – international AI expert from Mila – Quebec AI Institute – advised young people to learn computational thinking, programming and data analysis as early as possible, maybe from secondary school or high school.
At the university level, students should start with basic machine learning, data mining before getting into deep learning. Currently, many educational institutes put AI and machine learning into teaching for students, including FPT University.
When the passion and willingness of creating new products, AI projects or algorithms are big enough, students can access higher levels such as master’s degree. From there, they will begin to branch out into specific fields, such as computer vision, natural language processing, etc.
At FPT Education, the AI Campus in Quy Nhon is receiving strong investment to become an intensive training institute in this field. According to Mr. Vu Hong Chien, Director of Quy Nhon AI Research and Application Center (QAI), all of FPT’s important projects from science field to product development, are now launching at QAI.
Wide-open opportunity
Not only well-trained, FPT students also get a lot of job opportunities in the future, since now many FPT units are in need of recruiting in large numbers. Mr. Chien said that QAI currently needs about 150-200 employees specializing in data, machine learning and data science.
The center also cooperates with FPT University to recruit many students from the third year to do internships under the Internship program or AI Camp. It is expected that after 6 months, students can participate in real projects of the unit and confidently start to work.
FPT Smart Cloud – the company operating mainly in the AI field – is in need of personnel in 2 groups of AI scientists and AI engineers. While scientists are more research-oriented, engineers will focus on developing ideas into actual products.
Regarding remuneration, the average salary of experts in the field of AI and data science is USD 2,200 per month. “The most important thing is the candidate’s ability that matches with the company’s needs,” emphasized Mr. Vu Hong Chien.
In addition, FPT Corporation and Mila – Quebec AI Institute have collaborated in the FPT Software AI Residency scholarship program, creating favorable conditions for individuals with outstanding qualities, passion and determination to become experts in this field.
Specifically, candidates will receive the guidance of world-class scientists, get paid and have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and professional environment. The program requirements include GPA >3.0, strong knowledge of AI/machine learning/deep learning; 700 TOEIC or 6.0 IELTS; with strong determination and commitment. Two excellent students have the opportunity to study and research full-time in Mila (Canada).
