These activities range from introducing traditional Vietnamese musical instruments and Vovinam in schools to providing regular learning support for children in difficult circumstances. Some initiatives are delivered on a recurring basis, while others are organised in response to requests from schools and local partners.

1. At FPTU, traditional Vietnamese musical instruments and the martial art Vovinam are part of every student’s curriculum. Building on this, two long-running community projects – “Bringing Traditional Musical Instruments to Secondary and High Schools and the Community” and “Bringing Vovinam to High Schools” – send FPTU students and lecturers to local schools to perform, demonstrate and introduce these art forms to younger students.

In 2025, the projects reached around 70 lower secondary and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and the Mekong Delta, Da Nang and Quy Nhon, along with public spaces such as Ninh Kieu Wharf in Can Tho. School visits follow a fixed cycle each school year, with regular visits in spring and autumn.

The projects make direct use of what FPTU teaches: students learn traditional music and Vovinam as part of their degree, and then perform and teach them to younger students in local schools. Because the visits are repeated every year, the projects have become a long-term partnership between FPTU and local schools, not a one-off performance.

FPTU students perform and introduce traditional Vietnamese instruments during a visit to a high school in Ho Chi Minh City, one of around 70 schools reached in 2025

Digital Skills for Son Tay Ward, Hanoi: FPTU Students Help More Than 5,800 Residents Use Digital Public Services Safely

In Spring 2026, 50 FPTU students from the Hanoi campus joined the digital transformation project of Son Tay Ward. The aim was to help residents use digital public services and stay safe online. The students went directly to local households and ran 120 community awareness sessions, with more than 6,500 participations. They taught more than 5,800 residents about internet safety and the use of AI in teaching and daily life, and helped residents install digital applications more than 6,500 times. They also guided residents through 2,192 public service applications and helped them submit 5,822 administrative procedures online.

The programme was implemented as part of the ward’s digital transformation plan, with FPTU working in partnership with local authorities. FPTU students delivered digital literacy training directly in residents’ neighbourhoods, reaching more than 15,600 households. Results were documented through indicators such as the number of sessions held and administrative procedures submitted online, allowing the programme’s effectiveness to be evaluated. The student club ELF for Community at FPTU Ho Chi Minh City was founded to help close it, with a clear mission: to bring English learning, free of charge, to those who have the fewest opportunities to access it.

FPTU students carry this mission beyond the campus. The club runs volunteer English classes at care centres in the city, such as the Tam Binh Children’s Nurturing Centre and the Long Buu charity class in Thu Duc, and, through its HOPE Project, teaches online classes for children in special circumstances. In 2025, the classes ran every week from January to August: student volunteers taught in person on Saturdays, and the lessons continued online on Sundays, covering grammar, pronunciation and practice exercises.

What gives the project its value is continuity. Rather than meeting visitors once, the children learn with the same student teachers every week for eight months, building both their English and their confidence, while the volunteers learn to plan lessons, adapt to each child and take responsibility for a real class. The club also opens its ELF Speaking Club, an online English conversation club, to anyone in the community who wishes to practise.

FPTU student volunteers from the ELF for Community club with children at one of the club’s volunteer classes

Regular Learning Support for Children in Care Centres: Volunteers Return Every Semester

Children in care centres need regular support, not occasional visits. In December 2025, volunteers supported 126 children with schoolwork, while FPTU’s Vovinam club introduced them to the traditional Vietnamese martial art. A third round, held from 9 to 30 March 2026, reached another 112 children. By returning each semester, the project provides children with continued learning support beyond the classroom. Its activities respond to different educational needs, from developing English skills and exploring science to keeping up with schoolwork and experiencing extracurricular learning through Vovinam.
