Speaker Tran Luong Son holds a Master’s degree in Technology Management from MIT Sloan, USA. He is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Entrepreneurship Program at SUNY Cobleskill, New York. With years of experience in teaching and supporting entrepreneurship in the U.S., he will share practical lessons and experiences with students at FPT University Hanoi.
At the beginning of the talkshow, Associate Professor Tran Luong Son emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in today’s context. He highlighted that students need to clearly define their goals and be prepared to face failures. “Success is not the final destination, and failure is not the end. The courage to continue is what matters,” he quoted Winston Churchill.
Associate Professor Tran Luong Son shared key steps in the entrepreneurial process. He also stressed the importance of creating a solid financial plan and seeking funding. “It takes money to make money,” he said. Additionally, he discussed how the entrepreneurial spirit in Vietnam is among the highest in the world but often lacks systematic approach. Therefore, learning and thorough preparation are essential.
Furthermore, Associate Professor Tran Luong Son presented practical and crucial methods for successful entrepreneurship, such as identifying needs using the 4P method, developing products and services, creating operational plans, and building and raising capital. All the information provided by the speaker was convincing, logical, and useful.
At the end of the talkshow, Associate Professor Tran Luong Son had the opportunity to tour FPT University and gain a deeper understanding of the culture and values that FPTU offers to students, through traditional music courses, Đông Sơn drums, and the Self-Made Men statue.
Ms. Pham Tuyet Hanh Ha, representing the Student Relations Office, shared insights into FPT University’s 18-year journey and expressed pride in the successful alumni in entrepreneurship. She emphasized, “Entrepreneurship is not just a trend but also a promising career choice for young people. Some successful businesses have been developed from graduation projects of FPT University students, such as Top CV—Vietnam’s number one recruitment platform with 8 million users and over 20,000 companies globally—or Axie Infinity, a renowned blockchain game development company valued at billions of U.S. dollars.”
Nguyen Minh Quan, a third-year student majoring in Artificial Intelligence, who is developing a startup project focused on an online learning management platform, shared: “Today’s talkshow was truly beneficial and highly inspiring for me. As someone who is working on a project related to an online learning management platform, I was very impressed with the insights shared by Associate Professor Tran Luong Son. He provided a comprehensive and detailed perspective on the entrepreneurial process, from identifying problems and market needs to seeking funding and creating a financial plan. After listening to him, I realized that I need to continue learning, researching, and applying new knowledge to refine my project so as not to fall behind compared to the global landscape.”
