On November 5–6, 2024, FPT University Ho Chi Minh City hosted “Bringing Pangolins Home,” an interactive event and fundraising fair aimed at raising awareness among young people about the urgent need to protect pangolins—one of the world’s most endangered species. With engaging activities and the presence of renowned singer Gin Tuan Kiet, the event drew significant attention from the youth community.
Spreading the Message: “Pangolins Are Adorable, Handle Them with Care”
The event provided an interactive platform for participants to learn about the critical condition of pangolins. Through creative activities, it encouraged attendees to join the conservation effort and instilled a sense of responsibility toward preserving wildlife and the environment.
Highlights of the Event
The event featured various activity stations combining fun and education:
- “Adorable Pangolins Need Gentle Care” Station: Participants played a Scratch-based game simulating challenges pangolins face in the wild. Successful players earned rewards and points to exchange for prizes.
- “Become a Cool Conservationist!” Station: This Quizizz-based activity tested participants’ knowledge about wildlife conservation, with a special focus on pangolins. Correct answers not only scored points but also deepened their understanding of conservation efforts.
- “Help Bring Pangolins Home!” Station: Visitors could take photos with themed props and share them on social media using the hashtag #duatetevenha, spreading the conservation message to a broader audience.
Additionally, the fundraising zone offered conservation-related merchandise, with proceeds contributing directly to the pangolin protection fund.
Gin Tuan Kiet’s Charismatic Presence
The event gained further momentum with the attendance of Gin Tuan Kiet, a popular singer and actor known for his influence among young audiences. Bringing energy and warmth, Gin not only participated in the activities but also emphasized the importance of pangolin conservation:
“Protecting pangolins is a responsibility for everyone, especially the younger generation. We must recognize the rarity of this species and act together to save them.”
His involvement attracted many fans and amplified the campaign’s reach on social media, encouraging more people to share the conservation message.
Campaign Impact and Future Goals
With hundreds of participants and interactions, the event successfully raised awareness and inspired a love for nature among the youth. More than just a fun gathering, it served as an educational initiative, enabling the community to join hands in protecting endangered wildlife.
The “Bringing Pangolins Home” campaign primarily targets individuals aged 18–35 in Ho Chi Minh City, aiming to shed light on the critical threats pangolins face due to illegal poaching and wildlife trade. By spreading the message “Pangolins Are Adorable, Handle Them with Care,” the campaign motivates people to advocate for pangolin conservation on social media and actively support initiatives like those by Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW).
A Collaborative Effort for Wildlife Conservation
In its initial phase, the campaign collaborated with notable figures such as Miss Earth Nguyen Phuong Khanh, MC and Miss Do Nhat Ha, and content creator Gon Pink. The second phase will expand to include other influencers, such as singer Muoii, dancer Quang Dang, and singer Juky San, among others.
Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW), a nonprofit organization founded in 2014, works to prevent the extinction and recovery of endangered wildlife species in Vietnam. Its initiatives include rescue and rehabilitation, habitat protection, species research, conservation breeding, education, and policy advocacy. For more information, visit SVW’s website.
By fostering awareness and action, “Bringing Pangolins Home” stands as a beacon of hope for pangolin conservation and a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect wildlife.
