FPT University student brings AI research to international forums in Japan and China

Within just three months, Minh Uyen, a student at FPT University, presented three research papers at two prestigious international conferences, leaving her mark in the academic community.

Vu Minh Uyen is an outstanding student of cohort 17, majoring in Software Engineering at FPT University.

In April 2025, Minh Uyen made an impression when she joined the 16th International Conference on e-Education, e-Business, e-Management, and e-Learning (IC4E) in Tokyo, Japan. This respected academic forum gathered researchers, lecturers, and experts from many countries. The event was hosted by Kyushu University (Japan), co-sponsored by the Institute of Educational Technology Xuan – Beijing and Northeast Normal University (China), with professional support from universities in the US, China, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.

Passing a rigorous review process, Uyen’s first research paper, titled Student’s Perspectives on the Usage of ChatGPT in Scientific Research, was selected for presentation and officially published on IEEE Xplore – one of the world’s largest digital libraries for science and technology.

This study stemmed from Uyen’s observation of ChatGPT becoming more common in education. She realized that ChatGPT not only supports students in learning but also changes how they approach scientific research. Her paper highlighted the benefits, limitations, and proposed solutions for using this tool more effectively. “When presenting at the conference, I received many interesting questions from international professors and PhDs. That helped me practice critical thinking, defend my scientific views with confidence, and open up opportunities for future projects,” Uyen shared.

After her success in Japan, in July 2025 Uyen continued to prove her research ability by presenting two independent studies on AI applications in e-commerce at ICEME 2025 in Beijing, China. This annual conference gathers scholars, experts, and researchers in e-commerce, management, and economics from prestigious universities worldwide. Participation in ICEME 2025 was the result of her long preparation and strict selection, requiring topics that are both academically fresh and practically applicable.

Tại ICEME 2025, Minh Uyên đã trình bày 2 nghiên cứu liên quan đến thương mại điện tử.

The first paper analyzed the pros and cons of AI-powered virtual assistants in online shopping from the perspective of young consumers (Advantages and Disadvantages of AI-powered Virtual Assistants in E-commerce: Perspectives from Young Consumers). It pointed out how technology can improve user experience but also poses risks of dependence and data security. The second study, Impact of AI-powered Virtual Try-On Features on Purchase Intentions in Online Shopping, examined how AI virtual try-on technology influences customers’ buying intentions and trust in e-commerce platforms.

What drew attention to Uyen’s research at ICEME 2025 was her dual approach, looking at both technology and human aspects. Instead of focusing only on benefits, she emphasized sustainability, ethics, and balance in AI applications, opening up practical directions for both businesses and consumers. This perspective helped her make a strong impression on reviewers and international scholars at the conference.

Born in Kien Giang, Uyen considered the chance to attend international conferences in developed countries a valuable experience that broadened her academic outlook. The success at IC4E, together with support from lecturers, family, and the learning environment at FPT University, gave her confidence to pursue two new AI-related studies, which also gained recognition at ICEME 2025.

“What I value most at FPT is the environment that encourages students to experiment and create. Here, I always feel my ideas are heard, no matter how new or bold. Teachers not only teach theory but also guide us to turn ideas into real products or research projects, in line with the motto ‘Do it differently to do it better – Experience to grow’ that the university follows,” Uyen said.

Ngoài đến Trung Quốc để trình bày nghiên cứu, Minh Uyên còn có cơ hội khám phá những nền văn hoá mới.

On her journey to international forums, Uyen always remembers the support from FPT University. The school fully sponsored her participation, created the best conditions in terms of time and spirit, and honored her at the Summer 2025 Recognition Ceremony. For her, this was a meaningful recognition of her dedication and a motivation to continue on the research path.

She is also especially grateful to teacher Nguyen Trong Luan, who accompanied her in all three projects. He not only guided her academically but also encouraged her, helping her stay focused and complete her presentations successfully.

Beyond academic value, the trips also gave Uyen cultural experiences in new places. In China, she visited modern Shanghai, bustling Beijing, and ancient Suzhou. Each city had its own flavor – from architecture to cuisine and customs – helping her broaden her view and appreciate Vietnamese culture more deeply.

From those experiences, Uyen realized that knowledge can be gained in classrooms, but patience and perseverance are built through real challenges.

From Kien Giang to Tokyo and then Beijing, the story of Vu Minh Uyen shows that with passion, careful preparation, and the right environment, Vietnamese students can confidently conquer international academic stages and gain valuable experiences that go far beyond textbooks.
