On August 18, 105 IT students from universities in Da Nang, including 38 from FPT University, set out to support local wards and communes in applying information technology and promoting digital transformation, thereby contributing to the effective operation of the two-tier urban government model.
According to the plan, the student task force will provide support from August 18 to 25 at 44 wards and communes across the city. Before taking on their assignments, they received professional training organized by the Department of Science and Technology, and were also connected to an online support group via Zalo as well as a 24/7 hotline (*1022, 383 1022) to promptly handle any arising issues.
At the launch ceremony, 38 Information Technology students took part
On behalf of FPT University Da Nang, Ms. Truong Hong Cong, Head of Student Affairs, shared: “This is the first time FPT students have participated in a large-scale digital transformation campaign at the grassroots level. The university hopes that our students will leverage their expertise, youthful energy, and creativity not only to support the government in improving public services, but also to develop professional skills and a sense of civic responsibility.”
Earlier, the Da Nang People’s Committee had issued a plan to mobilize IT students to assist in applying information technology and digital transformation at local wards and communes. The initiative aims to enhance the application of technology within the two-tier urban government model, especially in providing and handling administrative procedures for citizens and businesses.
According to the plan, each ward and commune will be assigned two student volunteers to provide support in August 2025. Their tasks include troubleshooting technological equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, ticketing machines, and network systems; guiding and fixing errors in management software, online public service systems, and digital signature tools; as well as training staff on using common AI tools for administrative and office tasks. In addition, students will directly assist citizens and businesses at local administrative centers with ticketing, document lookup, online submission and signing, and reuse of digitized documents. They will also help promote essential digital skills and utilities, including Danang Smart City, VNeID, and other service applications such as Xanh SM and Grab.
FPT University students assist citizens with administrative procedures at local ward and commune offices.
Right from the early days of implementation, FPT students have made a positive impression. Notably, Dinh Van Dat, a third-year IT student, directly guided citizens on how to install and use the virtual assistant on the Danang Smart City application. “After assisting with administrative procedures, I took the opportunity to help people activate the app and showed them how to use commands to receive quick responses. By making good use of this AI assistant, citizens can prepare their documents at home, saving time when visiting the administrative center,” Dat shared.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology, noted that this deployment is just the beginning. With as many as 69 wards and communes requesting continued support, the Department will conduct a review and expand the program in the next phases.
The participation of students, especially the young cohort from FPT University, not only helps local authorities accelerate the application of information technology but also demonstrates the sense of social responsibility among today’s students. This initiative is expected to become a sustainable model, creating a core force in Da Nang’s comprehensive digital transformation journey.
