Recently, at the Academic Seminar held at FPTU Can Tho, Associate Professor. Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl (PETRONAS University of Technology, Malaysia) had many valuable shares about promoting scientific research activities among the staff and student of FPT Edu.
In order to create opportunities for the economics majored students in particular and others in general to access international scientific research, FPT University Can Tho organized a session with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl. It is known that Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl has years of working with IBM and Boustead Holdings and is currently Head of postgraduate in Management Research, PETRONAS University of Technology, Malaysia (ranked second in technology training in Malaysia).
The workshop was divided into two sessions: The process of publishing influential scientific research (morning) and Economic innovation for sustainable development (afternoon). In particular, English is the only language used throughout the exchange among Ms. Satirenjit Kaur Johl, staff, and students.
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Vo Minh Sang – Head of the Department of Business Administration, on behalf of all lecturers and students, stated the reason for organizing the seminar: “Scientific research is an important activity for students. At FPT University Can Tho, there are many scientific research articles by students and lecturers that have been successfully published in international journals. To create more opportunities to exchange with experts on scientific research, the FPT University Can Tho organizes this workshop. Wishing lecturers and students will have a good experience with today’s speaker – Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl.”
After opening the seminar with brief information about Petronas University of Technology, Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl began sharing about the complete method of writing and publishing a scientific research article: “Publishing a research article Science is not simply writing but it is a process consisting of 5 stages: Identifying the premise for research, writing the article, submitting the research, waiting for comments and editing the research, and waiting for publication.
That is, the first stage is the most important. You need to determine what problem the research paper will solve in the field you are studying or working in your country. If you don’t have an idea, read other studies in the field (from the past 5 years), read calls for papers (recruiting research papers) or reports from forums such as ASEAN, United Nations to identify and understand which issues are emerging. From there, choose keywords and titles that match readers’ information search needs.”
Besides, the speaker also pointed out the problem of most new researchers: Fear of having their article “rejected” so they don’t dare to write. According to Dr. Johl, most scientific research articles are rejected because they do not follow instructions or are submitted to the wrong field of the journal. So, instead of being afraid of being rejected, you need to learn from those mistakes so you don’t make them the next time you publish.
In the afternoon, the workshop continued with the content of Sustainable Development, attracting many lecturers and students aware of environmental protection to attend. To demonstrate the urgency of environmental pollution, Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl presented data on the greenhouse effect and cited information about the Paris Agreement on climate change. She pointed out that not only the government has issued environmental protection laws, but also businesses and investors have begun to focus on investing in green technology due to the benefits it brings: “Eco-Innovation has many impacts on social life. Specifically, applying green products to production and life helps improve community health, create jobs, enhance the sense of responsibility of consumers as well as manufacturing plants and ultimately reduce greenhouse effect through the use of cleaner energies.” In addition, she also introduced the process of applying ecological innovation to plastic production technology. At the end of the conference, she also opened a survey to gauge people’s interest in circular economy and answer questions from listeners.
The meeting with Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl ended successfully and well. Through the workshop, FPT University Can Tho hopes that students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their language skills and absorb valuable scientific research knowledge from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Satirenjit Kaur Johl.
