The Quarter IV / 2017 report of the Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs shows that more than 215,000 unemployed students have university or higher degrees in Vietnam.
Graduated from a reputable university with merit certification, many students are still struggling for finding suitable jobs. In contrast, a number of students were recruited when studying at the university. The difference between them is often not in professional knowledge but in living and soft skills.
Attending the software engineering course at FPT University, Truong Cong Thai has worked in an enterprise since he was 3rd– a year student. Graduated with a high-performance project, Thai was recruited by a prominent business and do his favorite job as a software developer.
“I was a shy person and did not involve in extracurricular activities,” he said.” I thought that I need to focus only on studying but the environment at FPT University made me change my mind”.
“Learn hard, Play hard is a characteristic of FPT University students,” Thai shared. In the first years, students who could not reach an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL iBT of 80 must attend a preparatory English course. Depending on the student’s ability, the learning course can last from 2 months to a year. At the end of the program, many students choose to participate in abroad short-term student exchanges to improve language skills in an international environment at the same cost as studying in Vietnam.
Not only learning specialized knowledge, but FPT University students also have many opportunities to participate in individual development programs. Therefore, students from FPT University often impress employers with their confidence and creative thinking.
100% of FPT University students soon accessed the actual work environment through the OJT (On Job Training) program at the enterprises. Practical knowledge from the business is applied back to the student’s learning process. Most graduates have a high-profile dissertation thesis. Some of them have also been developed into start-up or commercial projects. For example, the Handication application of FPT University students with impulse recognition and smartphone rings, enabling disabled people to hear and speak has received an investment of US 24,000 per year. Or Izee Streaming Video application offering an online video solution integrated with a number of advanced features were invested by some domestic and foreign businesses at the cost of VND200 million (USD 8,800). Smart car application T.NET developed by FPT University’s faculty and students is being implemented in Hanoi, Hung Yen, etc.
