FPTU alum goes viral: turning AI into a life-saving tool

Amid the devastating floods, as desperate cries for help flooded social media, within just four hours, Nguyen Thi Mai Anh – an alumna of FPT University – and Tu Tat Huan developed a real-time rescue map at https://thongtincuuho.org, helping thousands of flood victims find timely assistance.

The website thongtincuuho.org was completed in only four hours, from 11:00 p.m. on October 7 to 3:00 a.m. on October 8, 2025, by two young developers: Tu Tat Huan, a programmer with nearly ten years of experience in the tech industry, and Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, an AI product development specialist and an alumna of FPT University’s K7 cohort, majoring in Business Administration.

From an idea in the flood to a life-saving rescue map

The idea originated when Tu Tat Huan was stranded on Tran Duy Hung Street (Hanoi) during heavy rains caused by Typhoon Bualoi. During five hours waiting in his car, he wrote the first lines of code for Vntraffic.app – an application displaying real-time flooding and traffic conditions.

Later, on the evening of October 7, when Nguyen Thi Mai Anh – his friend and tech colleague – texted him about the severe flooding in Thai Nguyen, where hundreds of residents were calling for help, the two decided to transform the traffic app Vntraffic.app into a rescue map overnight.
“On-site rescue is not easy for people without professional training, so we focused on the first critical step – accurately locating those in need,” Mai Anh shared.

Starting from Thai Nguyen province, the team quickly expanded the map’s coverage to Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son, and Cao Bang, enabling residents in affected areas to update information and receive timely support. Within a single day, the map attracted over 3,000 users – proof of the strong resonance of a humane, technology-driven idea.

AI-powered rescue map: when data becomes humanity

The thongtincuuho.org platform is more than a tracking tool – it’s an AI-powered system operating in real time.

The team built an automated system to scan social media for comments and posts from trusted pages and community groups where people were calling for help. These were aggregated, filtered, and displayed on the online map as heatmap hotspots, helping rescue teams identify emergency areas instantly.
Each location is linked to Google Maps coordinates, allowing authorities to access and respond immediately.
“Technology itself is not difficult; the real challenge is how to use it accurately, responsibly, and in time to help those in need,” Mai Anh explained.

Mai Anh understood this deeply. Back in 2021, she and her team launched HELPPP!, a food-relief project supporting vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project used automation to collect data, eliminate duplicates, prioritize urgent cases, and apply big data analytics to verify authenticity – identifying and filtering out fraud attempts that exploited compassion.

From that experience, Mai Anh carried forward her belief in using technology for good. With the rescue map project, she combined artificial intelligence with empathy – turning each red dot on the map from mere data into a human life waiting for help.

A Coc’s heart of tech and compassion

Before becoming an AI specialist, Mai Anh was an active member of the Event Club at FPT University. Those years helped her develop organizational skills, a spirit of collaboration, and a deep sense of community service – values she still holds today.

For Mai Anh, technology is not just a tool, but a bridge connecting compassion with real-world action.
Out of the storm, a project was born – one that gave hundreds of people a chance to survive. Behind it is the story of an FPTU alumna who chose to use intelligence in service of humanity, transforming complex technologies like AI and big data into life-saving solutions.

Mai Anh’s story not only inspires kindness in the digital age but also embodies the FPTU spirit: to think differently, act boldly, and contribute selflessly to society.
