Dubbed the ‘Bill Gates of India,’ Narayana Murthy shared insights on educational perspectives and highlighted three crucial questions he believes are key to success in any field during his visit and collaboration at FPT University on the morning of May 20th, 2024.
On May 20th, Narayana Murthy, the Indian IT billionaire and co-founder of Infosys Technologies—often likened to the Indian Bill Gates—along with his delegation paid a visit to FPT University in Hanoi.
The education model centered around IT at FPT University piqued the interest of the Indian billionaire. Narayana Murthy spent time asking questions and gathering information about the practical training in this field, as well as the technology trends being taught at FPT University, such as semiconductor technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Narayana Murthy also noticed a similarity in the educational philosophy between FPT University and one of the’secrets’ that contributed to his successful entrepreneurship journey, transforming Infosys Technologies from an obscure company into an icon of the Indian software industry: self-learning. “Learning how to learn,” Narayana Murthy reiterated this phrase multiple times during his interactions on May 20th at FPT University in Hanoi.
For him, education has a practical mission closely linked to life, which is to enhance learning capabilities so that learners can solve life’s challenges. Therefore, self-improvement in learning, learning how to learn, and lifelong learning help individuals stay agile and adapt well to constantly emerging new challenges in life.
Narayana Murthy also remarked, “FPT University has great potential for development. The university needs to define its development direction not only to become a major university in Vietnam but also to boldly learn from the best universities in the region and worldwide.”
He also shared that FPT University could refer to important standards for a university, such as increasing the employment rate of graduates and providing high-quality young talent for the industry. Additionally, the Indian billionaire emphasized the role of innovation and creativity in directly serving urgent societal issues for a university, seeing these as ‘strategic orientations for FPT University.’
He also warmly engaged with FPT University students to understand how to sign and notate Vietnamese music. He showed particular interest in ordering orange shirts from the students for a truly ‘Vietnamese’ musical performance, and together they melodiously played the gentle melody of the Vietnamese song ‘Beo Dat May Troi.’
“Despite being a person working in modern technology, I feel that Mr. Narayana Murthy values and wants to understand the traditional values of countries, including Vietnam. I feel very happy and proud to have performed traditional musical instruments with friends during the meeting with him today,” shared Nguyen Khanh Chi (a student of Class K18 at FPT University).
Concluding the activities at FPT University, the Indian technology billionaire continues his schedule with FPT Corporation from now until May 23rd.
