Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh delivered the opening speech for the R&D Meet 2025 Conference
Attending the opening and the first working session of the conference, the leadership from FPT University included Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh – Rector of FPT University, FPT Group; Dr. Nguyen Kim Anh – Vice Rector of FPT University, FPT Group; Mr. Hoang Nam Tien – Vice Chairman of the University Council, FPT University, FPT Group; Mr. Hoang Viet Ha – Director of the Institute of International Universities, Director of Swinburne Vietnam, FPT Group; and Mr. Nguyen Nhut Tan – Vice Dean of the Institute of International Universities, Director of Greenwich Vietnam, FPT Group. From FPT Group, Dr. Tran The Trung – Director of the Research Institute of Technology also participated. In addition, department heads, division leaders, and those involved in scientific research activities, along with over 50 lecturers, including associate professors and lecturer-researchers from FPT University, attended the first working session of the conference.

Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh delivered the opening speech at the first conference on scientific research organized by FPT University – R&D Meet 2025. Reflecting on the early days of his journey in the education and training sector with FPT Aptech in 1999 and the establishment of FPT University in 2006, he shared that there has always been a dream among FPT members working in education: “to contribute to expanding the intellectual boundaries of the country.” To this day, FPT University has been implementing various policies to encourage scientific research activities for both lecturers and students. Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh emphasized that investing in scientific research is a challenging task. The goal of the R&D Meet conference is to engage in discussions and share ideas on how to effectively invest in scientific research efforts.
Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh also proposed several new directions for scientific research development at the university, such as linking research and development with the commercialization of products and research outcomes, transforming ideas into tangible products for consumers. In some developed countries, scientific research is closely tied to innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. In conclusion, Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh wished for the R&D Meet to be a great success.

As one of the two leaders of FPT University who shared before the session on reporting the actual situation of scientific research activities, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien introduced the topic of AI in education. Drawing from his real-life experiences during his time as a PhD student in Japan and working at FPT in the fields of software and telecommunications, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien raised the question: How can we develop the field of scientific research in a practical way that can address the challenges faced by businesses?

Some of the practical issues with scientific research work today, according to Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, include low budgets, insufficient collaboration with local businesses, and a lack of a distinctive identity for educational institutions. Mr. Hoang Nam Tien suggested several directions for improvement: establishing labs run by businesses, the DOJO model – where real-world problems are solved by experts and talented students within a limited timeframe, with the outcomes subject to approval or rejection by authorized individuals. Finally, he proposed the establishment of an innovation and startup center at FPT University, sharing an emotional story about witnessing FPT staff participate in challenging real-world projects for foreign businesses.

After the opening remarks at R&D Meet, representatives from department heads and units related to scientific research, lecturers and researchers from FPT University, as well as representatives from FPT Group, reported on the actual situation of scientific research in recent years, particularly in 2024. They also shared some directions and proposals to promote this activity in 2025.
