Students from FPT University in Can Tho have launched the project “Open Time,” featuring a series of exhibitions, short films, and performances to promote the culture and history of the Mekong Delta, showcasing national pride.
To raise awareness about the culture and history of the Mekong Delta and bring this imagery closer to the public, especially young people, the group of students from FPT University in Can Tho has developed the “Open Time” project with various activities, including exhibitions, film screenings, and performances.
The project “Open Time” includes a series of activities that are diverse in both content and form of expression
The project kicked off with the podcast “Lai rai chuyen” featuring guests such as directors, actors, and musicians knowledgeable about the culture and history of the Mekong Delta. Following that, the student group organized the exhibition “Thoi ngo – Hanh trinh da giac quan”
“The exhibition combines mapping technology (which merges light and images to create 3D effects) and 5.1 spatial audio, allowing viewers to experience the rich and vibrant beauty of cultural heritage through modern technology,” a representative from the student group shared about the unique aspects of the event.
To depict the cultural beauty and patriotic spirit of the coastal residents of the Mekong Delta, the FPT University students also produced the film “The Shape of Happiness 2,” filmed on Ha Tieu Island (Ha Tien, Kien Giang). The film was screened at CGV Hung Vuong at the end of July, offered free of charge to students and art enthusiasts.
The group of students from FPT University Can Tho branch implementing the project “Thoi ngo” includes: Nguyen Trong Kha, Huynh Thao Vy, Tran Khanh Van and Le Hoang Lieu
After the film premiere attracted a large audience, the project “Thoi ngo” continued with the performance show “Hoi uc Phuong Nam.” This was a highlight of the event series. At “Hoi uc Phương Nam,” modern art forms like hip hop, contemporary dance, and theater were combined to recreate the history and culture of the Mekong Delta through different periods.
The group demonstrated thorough research on the region’s culture and history, skillfully and creatively blending it with contemporary art forms, making the message of preserving and safeguarding traditional culture more accessible to young audiences.
“Thoi ngo” is not only a heartfelt art project but also the graduation product for the multimedia communication program of the students from FPT University in Can Tho. Balancing the requirements of a graduation project while conveying a message of cultural pride was a significant challenge for the group.
“The team members continuously enriched their knowledge of culture and history by meeting and exchanging ideas with researchers and artists familiar with the land and people of the Mekong Delta to identify unique highlights for each activity. Additionally, they applied the multimedia communication skills they learned at school to promote and attract the public to the events within ‘Thoi ngo,’” a representative from the group shared.
With the results achieved through various products and accompanying communication activities, “Thoi ngo” received much praise from the faculty during the recent graduation defense at FPT University in Can Tho for its creativity, communication effectiveness, and meaningful message.
Moving forward, the group plans to expand the project with more innovative activities. They hope to promote the lifestyle and cultural identity of the Mekong Delta to a wider audience, contributing to the preservation and dissemination of national pride within the community, especially among the youth.
