Collaborative action for sustainable development (SD) has become a critical requirement in the global economy, socio-culture, and education. At the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Summit in 2015, world leaders adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at ending poverty, protecting the environment and climate, conserving energy, and ensuring peace and prosperity.
From 2022 to 2024, FPT University has participated three times in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, a global ranking for universities contributing to sustainable development, and has continuously improved its position: in 2022, FPT University was ranked in the 801-1000 group; by 2023, it rose to the 601-800 group; and in 2024, it reached the 401-600 group. FPT University has established its status and gained international recognition as a university contributing to the promotion of the UN’s sustainable development goals.
Each year, FPT University conducts a survey to collect data on students’ activities for sustainable development goals. The aim of the survey is to understand students’ awareness and specific actions regarding the 17 SDGs. Additionally, through the survey questions, students are encouraged to move from understanding the 17 UN SDGs to taking increasingly meaningful actions.
In 2023, we conducted this regular survey again. The survey was announced to all FPT University students and attracted over 16,500 responses. The results of the survey serve as the basis for evaluating and formulating a general plan to best contribute to and uphold FPT University’s role and mission in implementing the SDGs.
The survey was conducted through the FU Survey platform, a tool developed by FPT University, from October 4, 2023, to October 11, 2023. It gathered over 16,500 responses from students across the university.
A table of statistics showing the number of actions students took for each sustainable development goal:
With over 16,500 student responses, the survey reveals that FPT University students show active interest and participation in activities for sustainable development goals. The SDGs with the most student actions include SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through various actions, such as physical exercise and mental health care, using public transport or electric vehicles, utilizing recycled products, and reducing single-use plastic.
The survey results provide a valuable foundation for FPT University’s further efforts in supporting and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. By gaining a clearer understanding of how students have been contributing, the university can identify opportunities to encourage and further facilitate these actions by providing additional resources, developing programs, and expanding international partnerships.
