Vu Dinh Thai scored 29.6/30 points, leading the A00 block nationwide, achieving double top scorer status as he also achieved the highest score in the Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s thinking assessment exam.
Dinh Thai is a former student of class 12 A1, Tay Thuy Anh High School, Thai Binh province. Among the approximately 20,000 candidates taking the thinking assessment test at Hanoi University of Science and Technology this year, Thai also led with 96.43/100 points.
Thai is the second child in his family, residing in Duong Phuc commune, Thai Thuy district. His mother, a teacher, passed away when he was in 7th grade. The family’s economy relied on farming and his father’s side jobs. Thai said that due to the difficult financial situation, he has always strived to study hard from a young age to help his family in the future.
During his study sessions, he did not allocate specific times for each subject, focusing more on the ones he felt less confident about. Thai’s secret was to always grasp the classroom theory well to be able to do the exercises given by the teachers at home and find materials online for self-study.
Thai did not attend extra classes but accumulated knowledge through training with the school’s teams for the excellent students in Mathematics and Chemistry in 11th grade.
“I am hesitant about extra classes, partly because they are costly and partly because the slow learning pace is not suitable for me. I decided to self-study,” Thai said.
For difficult problems, Thai tried to find solutions from different sources. If something was too hard, he would leave it to ponder and come back to it a few days later. Thai found it effective to study with a relaxed mind, staying up no later than 11 p.m. Thanks to his efforts, he won first prize in Mathematics and second prize in Chemistry in Thai Binh province in 12th grade.
Determined to take exams for the experience without putting too much pressure on the scores, Thai was comfortable and able to perform well. He did not set a goal to be the top scorer in the thinking assessment or the national A00 block, but just tried his best.
With the results of the thinking assessment exam, Thai was accepted early into Hanoi University of Science and Technology and won a 100% scholarship in Information Technology from FPT University.
He plans to choose FPT University, pursuing his dream of working in the Information Technology field. To prepare for the upcoming journey, Thai will improve his communication skills, teamwork abilities, and English.
Currently, Dinh Thai is still self-training and improving his discipline. With a natural talent for the natural sciences, he is interested in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Software Engineering majors at FPT University. “I find these to be promising fields that the university is training in. I am inclined towards the AI major as it has a lot of development potential and suits me.”
Despite receiving a 100% high school scholarship from FPT University, Dinh Thai still wanted to challenge himself with the university’s scholarship exam to assess his own abilities. The results surprised him even more when he once again achieved the maximum scholarship with a logical math score of 85/90 and an essay score of 8/15. Although the full scholarship is only applied once during the 4 years, this further confirms Dinh Thai’s abilities and efforts throughout his years of study.
