FPT University (FPTU), as a body, promotes and allows telecommuting and remote working for its employees as a matter of policy and standard practice. The aim is to reduce employee commuting and the greenhouse gas emissions it causes, while keeping all university operations running smoothly.
Remote working as standard practice at FPT University
From an early stage, driven by the need to manage a multi-campus organization across Vietnam and to leverage its advantage as part of a leading technology corporation, FPTU has implemented a comprehensive digital transformation policy across all management processes – including administrative operations, teaching, and learning.
Thanks to early investments in digital infrastructure and transformation policies, during the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, no department or faculty at FPTU experienced a single day of disruption.
Under the initiative “Smart Office – Green Work,” both administrative and academic staff at all five campuses (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho and Quy Nhon) can perform their duties through digital platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, and the university’s online learning system (MOOC).
All work operations are accessible through the integrated mobile app My FPT Next, allowing employees to manage tasks directly from their personal devices.
During the pandemic, the rate of online working reached up to 95%, powered by FPT’s digital ecosystem, ensuring continuous operation without interruption.
After the pandemic, FPTU did not return to fully on-site work. It enhanced its Work-From-Home (WFH) infrastructure and kept remote working as a standard practice, allowing staff to work online 2–3 days per week.
Employees living more than 40 km from campus, those with young children, or those in specialized digital-based roles are permitted to work remotely up to 50% of the time — giving priority to the staff with the longest commutes and the greatest need for flexibility.
Collaboration between the university’s five campuses across Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnam remains seamless through fully digitized coordination and online meeting systems, so staff do not need to travel between cities for meetings.
In teaching and learning, all courses now include 25–50% online sessions, ensuring flexibility and resilience, and reducing the number of trips lecturers and students make to campus.
Digital infrastructure that makes remote work possible
All work operations at FPTU are accessible through the integrated mobile app My FPT Next, which lets employees manage tasks, notices and internal communication (FPT Chat) from their personal devices wherever they are. Meetings and classes run on Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet, and learning materials are delivered through the university’s online learning system. Because every process can be completed online, an employee working from home has the same access to work as one working on campus.
Aligned with FPT Corporation’s low-carbon working model
FPTU’s policy follows the direction set across FPT Corporation. During the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020–2021, FPT Software applied a work-from-home model to more than 70% of its workforce to ensure business continuity. From 2024, after the pandemic, FPT Software has maintained a 90:10 hybrid working model specifically to reduce Scope 3 emissions from employee commuting. FPTU applies the same principle in a university setting: remote work is treated not only as a convenience, but as a climate action.
