FPT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS INTO TOP 20 ASIA AT ACM-ICPC 2020

All four teams that represented FPT Edu at the ACM/ICPC Asia 2019 Contest finished the Asia round with commendable performance. The FPT University (Hanoi) NP-Hard team, in particular, has impressively placed in the TOP 20 competing in ACM-ICPC 2020.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Anh, Team Lead of FPT University, commented on the Asian competition round in Bangkok: “Bangkok is a site where many top competitors converge. The four FPT University teams will have the chance to practice and have additional experience for future competitions.

The NP-Hard team from FPTU Hanoi successfully finished the Regional round in Bangkok and made it into the top 20 teams. The other three teams, FPTU JupyterLab, FPTU Ben10, and FPTU Nine One One, all occupy significant positions in the TOP 30.

Hà Phú Quý – Software Engineering student, Batch K15 – Team Ben10 shared: “Since I was a senior in high school, I’ve wanted to compete in ACM. My K15 buddies urged me to form a team and take the test when I first enrolled at the school. The team’s formation must happen quickly. The Bangkok site has too many formidable competitors, and we only have a little more than a month to get ready. A great experience is competing against former classmates and international friends. Best experience I’ve had since my first year!”

Additionally, on November 3, the FPT University’s Cache-miss team earned the Silver Award in the National ICPC Round. For education institutions in the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho competition, FPTU Orange 3 has held down the top spot.

NP-Hard, FPTU Cache-miss, and FPTU Orange 3 will continue competing in the ACM-ICPC Asia polar round in Manila (Philippines) from December 13 to December 16, 2019, as a result of this outcome. The remaining teams will continue competing in the ACM-ICPC Asia round on December 5 and 6, 2019, at Site Da Nang.

ACM-ICPC (ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest) is the oldest and most prestigious international programming competition for students in higher education worldwide. The top teams from across the continent will be chosen through the regional finals to compete in the ACM-ICPC World Final, which seeks to identify the world champion team. Participating in the ACM – ICPC exam helps to advance the student programming movement and establishes FPT University as a tradition. The FPT University squad represented Vietnam and the entire region at the World Final six years ago.

Mr. Tran Duong – coach of the ACM team shared: “The World Final is a difficult challenge. You must place in the top five in your region to qualify for the World Final. Each team may compete in the regional round a maximum of two times. The team that qualifies for the World Final will be determined by its best score or ranking over those two attempts. For every FPT University team, December is the final chance to compete. NP Hard is the most seasoned squad out of the four teams who recently competed in the regional round in Bangkok, Thailand. When we sign up for the Regional Round in the Philippines, the instructors have high hopes for our students and want them to succeed. The Regional Round will feature many capable teams from Korea, Japan, North Korea, and China. To develop, dare to test yourself in challenging circumstances.”

Mr. Tran Duong and Mr. Ngoc Anh had the same evaluation of the Asia round in Da Nang this December: “This is a regional round with many participating teams, thus there are also many difficulties, especially the universities which have tradition of attending ACM.” As a result, all 4 teams practice day and night and take 2-3 mock examinations each week to prepare for the forthcoming Asian round. For each weekly mock test, each team practices from 7 to 12 p.m.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Anh said: “ACM is a prestigious competition that, when you succeed, the future will be open; those students whom he used to lead to ACM in the past, now achieve pay rates from 4,000 salaries to 5,000 USD. So, participating in ACM is a mark of life. In particular, NP Hard is a veteran team, the mood is relatively good and full of resolve; hope they will have breakthroughs in this upcoming round.”

Wish the warriors – the F family toads will have the best preparation for the upcoming competitions and achieve excellent results in this year’s ACM-ICPC season.
