Chapter IV, Article 22 of the FPT University’s Sustainable Development Policy directly states the rule as: “Prohibition of smoking, including electronic cigarettes, on campus”.
1. Purpose of Statement
FPT University aims to give every student, staff member, and visitor a safe, healthy place to learn and work. The university has kept a formal no-smoking policy in place since 2006 – when it was established, built to protect the community’s health, support wellbeing, and back the institution’s wider environmental commitments.
The policy follows Vietnam’s Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms (Law No. 09/2012/QH13) and Directive No. 56/2007/CT-BGDDT issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, both of which bar smoking in classrooms and other workspaces at educational institutions nationwide. FPT University reviews and updates the policy every year, most recently in 2026, so that it keeps pace with national health regulations and the university’s own sustainable development goals.
2. Scope of Application
The policy covers every FPT University campus nationwide, indoors and outdoors alike – classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, cafeterias, offices, parking areas, sports facilities, and green spaces are all included. It applies to anyone present on campus, including students, faculty, staff, contractors, and even visitors.
3. Policy Statement
- – Smoking and the use of any tobacco product is prohibited everywhere on campus.
- – Selling, distributing, or promoting tobacco products on campus grounds is not permitted.
- – The university asks every member of its community to help keep the air clean and to model healthy behavior for others.
4. Monitoring and Enforcement
FPT University backs the policy with ongoing awareness efforts, regular compliance checks, and disciplinary action where needed, so the campus stays smoke-free in practice and not only on paper.
Prohibition Signage across Its Campuses
Around its campuses, the university displays “No Smoking” signage, including cigarettes and e-cigarettes, in classrooms, dormitories, offices, dining areas, sports fields, restrooms and other shared spaces as a constant, visible reminder of the rule.

“No Smoking” signs are placed at visible spots, part of the signage FPT University displays across its campuses to reinforce the smoke-free policy.
Promote Awareness through Different Channels
In terms of on-ground activities, FPT University, in collaboration with the Department of Multimedia Communications, hosted the interactive educational event “Smoke Off – Move On” in March 2025, drawing thousands of interested participants. The event provided a journey for young people – especially students – to reflect on their toxic relationship with smoking and e-cigarettes, empowering them to step-by-step “move on” by exploring healthy smoking cessation methods.

The “Smoke Off – Move On” interactive event aims to help participants quit smoking.
Highlighted by the talkshow “Hiểu Kế Move On” (Understanding How to Move On) featuring healthcare experts, every stage of the event offered fresh perspectives. This helped participants better understand the underlying reasons for their past struggles with quitting and discover suitable solutions to truly break free from smoking habits.

The talkshow, featuring two doctors, helped students raise awareness of the harmful effects of smoking.
On online platforms, FPT University has posted official notices prohibiting smoking and e-cigarettes on campus and in student dormitories across its official social media channels. All violations will be handled in accordance with the university’s regulations and the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms (effective June 18, 2012) enacted by the National Assembly of Vietnam.

A notice prohibiting smoking has been posted on the school’s online communication channels.
5. Policy Review and Update
The policy was first issued in 2006 and has since been revised to stay current, most recently in 2026.
