FPT University drives community outreach for healthy and wellbeing to every corner of the community it serves

FPT University’s outreach for health and wellbeing in 2025 was not built around a single audience. Some of it reached the local community and the wider public; some was aimed specifically at people who face extra barriers to health and stability — ethnic-minority boarding students, families in a remote border commune, and the deaf and hard-of-hearing community; and some helped children build a new place to call home after losing their parents. The initiatives below are organized by who they were built for.

FPT University Supports the Local Community to Stay Active, Informed, and Connected

Much of FPT University’s 2025 outreach was aimed at its own student community and the broader public around its campuses — through sport, public campaigns, and the university’s contribution to a national blood-donation fund.

Sports and Exercise: A Year of Competitive Momentum

FPT University’s sports and health clubs had an active year. In October 2025, the FPTU Basketball Club (FBC) opened its campaign at the National University Basketball Championship 2025, with a 42–24 win over the Vietnam Aviation Academy.

FPTU students got off to a strong start at the National University Basketball Championship 2025.

In December 2025, its Vovinam students group took 7 silver and 8 bronze medals and an overall Encouragement Award against 27 universities and colleges at the Ho Chi Minh City Student Vovinam Championship 2025. Traditional martial arts training gives students a structured, recurring way to stay physically active, and a result like this — placing 6th out of all ranked teams — shows the university’s sports clubs are a genuine, ongoing outlet for exercise rather than a one-off event.

That same month, many students, alumni, and lecturers from FPT University competed in Sports Fest 2025, a multi-sport event held jointly in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City welcoming university students from across the city, such as Swinburne Vietnam, Asia Vietnam, and Metropolia Vietnam, to compete in a wide range of sports. Beyond the excitement of competition, Sports Fest 2025 served as a platform to promote exercise, an active lifestyle and meaningful connections within the educational community.

Mental Health, Safety, and Digital Literacy

In March 2025, Multimedia Communications students and faculty of FPT University Ha Noi campus launched “Là Tớ” (It’s Me) — a campaign built around a sharing talkshow and an original music video, to help young people see identity struggles as a normal part of growing up rather than a personal failure. With the slogan “It’s okay — just be yourself!”, this campaign encourages active participation in activities that equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to better understand themselves, while creating opportunities for them to offer mutual encouragement, sharing, and support.

From March to April 2025, the Student Affairs Department of FPT University organized an AI competition named “Code Arena 2025” for high-school and university students across the Mekong Delta, in which two of the five finalist teams developed health-related tools. Team Kupokatri presented “Skisen”, an AI application that helps identify and analyze signs of dermatological conditions, supporting users in detecting skin problems early. On the other hand, team Z-One introduced “AICOMM”, an AI-based communication aid for people who are deaf or hard of hearing that uses sign language translation to make everyday communication easier.

In June 2025, after finishing as national runner-up at the “Drug-Free School 2024” competition, FPT University lecturers and students continued the project by building “SafeEdu” — an AI-integrated application to raise awareness of drug abuse, school violence, and gender-based prejudice among students. As a result, the app went on to win first prize in the competition’s community-project category and was showcased at a 2025 National Gala of the Ministry of Public Security.

Blood Donation and the One-Day Salary Fund

Much of FPT University’s health-related giving flows through the One-Day Salary Fund (FPT for the Community Fund), an annual charitable initiative where FPT personnel collectively donate a single day’s wages to support social causes and community development. In 2025, that pooled VND 78.8 billion, funded 2,910 units of donated blood, and reached more than 94,100 beneficiaries nationwide.

FPT employees are willing to contribute one day’s salary to the community fund and donate blood nationwide.

On the ground, that translated into events such as “Điều Tử Tế Bay Xa” (Kindness Travels Far), a blood donation drive held simultaneously in Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. On 13 March 2025 at FPT University Da Nang campus, there were nearly 500 people registered for blood donation and finally donated 300 units of blood for those in need.

FPT University Facilitates Disadvantaged People to Reach Care, Clean Water, and Communication

Other programmes were built specifically for people who face extra barriers to health, education, or communication: ethnic-minority students in remote boarding schools, families in mountainous areas, and the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Hygiene and Clean Water for Communities in Need

FPT University’s community also channels support through “Quỹ Hy Vọng” (the Hope Fund), a charitable fund run in partnership with FPT Corporation and VnExpress. In April 2025, the fund began a new phase of its sanitation and clean-water programme in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, building 20 hygiene facilities and a bathhouse with clean-water access for roughly 7,500 students and teachers, including at Bo Trach Ethnic Boarding High School, where students had previously bathed in a river.

Representatives of Opella Vietnam and the Hope Foundation signed an sponsorship agreement on the Hygiene and Clean Water project in 2025.

Across three years of similar projects in Vietnam’s northwest and central provinces, teachers report a measurable difference: 94% saw fewer gastrointestinal illnesses among students, and 91% saw improved attendance, after the facilities were built. Until April 2025, 173 sanitation and bathing facilities have been constructed, alongside awareness-raising on school hygiene and gender issues activities that have provided better living conditions for students and teachers in rural areas.

“Mắt Thấy Tay Nghe”: Sign Language and the Deaf Community

In March 2025, at FPT University Can Tho campus, Multimedia Communications students ran “Mắt Thấy Tay Nghe” (Eyes See, Hands Hear) — a campaign with the highlight of “Phiên Chợ Không Lời” (Silent Market) where participants communicated exclusively using sign language. Driven by a desire to create positive social impact, the student team identified a lack of accessible content and communication opportunities for the deaf and hard-of-hearing population, in order to raise awareness among students about the use of sign language and to promote respect for deaf culture.

In parallel, the campaign partnered with the Can Tho Deaf  Club to ensure professional accuracy and wider community reach and held a sign-language workshop — later featured on Can Tho City Television. Besides, team members also explored the use of AI to eliminate communication barriers between the hearing-impaired and hearing individuals.

Free Health Check-ups in a Border Commune

In early 2026, the One-Day Salary Fund financed free health check-ups, medicine, and school equipment for more than 530 students in Thuong Trach, a rural commune on the border area of Quang Tri province, delivered together with the local health authorities. This effort not only ensures timely health check-ups and care for the children but also contributes to raising awareness about school health protection in remote and isolated areas of Vietnam.

FPT University Helps Children from Different Places to Build a New Place to Call Home

“Hand in Hand to Go Global” is an English-teaching and mentorship project built around a group of children who did not choose to leave their home provinces but had to due to losing both parents to COVID-19, and who are now learning to call Da Nang home instead. Brought together from many different parts of Vietnam, they share what many displaced communities need most: a stable place to belong, and people willing to walk alongside them while they rebuild that sense of belonging. The project exists to be that steady presence, one classroom and one relationship at a time.

FPT University Da Nang campus runs the project directly: student volunteers, mentors, and faculty teach English lessons on a regular basis and stay involved well beyond the classroom, offering steady companionship and emotional support as the children settle into their new city. The relationship runs both ways — the children gain language skills and consistent support, while FPT University students gain real teaching practice and stronger communication skills. In 2025, the project engaged 770 student turns of participation from FPT University Da Nang, reaching around 110 children over the phase of the year.

Conclusion

Seen together, FPT University’s 2025 outreach did not treat the local community as one audience. It showed up as competitive sport and public campaigns for students and the wider public, as clean water, medical care, and communication access for groups who need targeted support or face disadvantaged barriers, and as an ongoing mentorship relationship with children who had to build a new sense of home after losing everything familiar. That range — reaching different people in different ways — is what keeps the university’s outreach connected to the actual needs of the communities it serves, rather than a single programme repeated every year.
