R&D Meet 2025: Lecturers-Researchers proposes plans to promote scientific research at FPT University

Each group of lecturers and researchers was assigned a topic – a “problem” that exists in the scientific research activities at FPT University, to discuss and find a “solution.” In the final session of R&D Meet 2025 on the afternoon of January 12, each group presented their analyses and proposals to address the issues and promote the development of scientific research at the university.

At the beginning of the afternoon session, which was also the final session of R&D Meet 2025, Dr. Le Truong Tung – Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT University, FPT Group, shared a few thoughts regarding his desires and the strategic direction for the development of scientific research at the university.

Dr. Le Truong Tung speaks at the working session on the afternoon of January 12, R&D Meet

According to Dr. Le Truong Tung, good scientific research (GSR) is one of the five things that need to be done well in the development strategy of FPT Corporation’s education sector in general, FPT University in particular, in addition to good teaching, good business connection, good internationalization and good implementation of social responsibility. Scientific research is also one of the 13 groups of activities when FPT University built a set of criteria for assessing the quality of higher education institutions according to ISO 21001 standards. The practical significance of SRC, contributing to the development of people and life is the goal that FPT University wants to emphasize.

The research – development – commercial model means that SRC can commercialize, concretize research into products and services or at least transfer research and knowledge, which is the model that countries like Malaysia are implementing. Or in Singapore, GSR must go hand in hand with innovation and entrepreneurship. These are the ways to develop scientific research that some countries with developed education systems in the region are pursuing, according to Dr. Le Truong Tung. “Can innovative research create new businesses?” The question was raised by Dr. Le Truong Tung to open the reports of groups of teachers and researchers around specific topics, in the final working session of R&D Meet 2025.

Delegates attending the R&D Meet 2025 Conference

Group 1 of lecturers and researchers (LR) includes: Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Lam, Dr. Tran Quoc Duy, Dr. Huynh Cong Viet Ngu, Dr. Truong Ngoc Hung, Dr. Vo Dinh Nam, Dr. Le Dinh Thang, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh reported on the topic: “Building a sustainable research strategy and a specific action program to link with the common sustainable development goals of FE”.

LR Group No. 1 shares about the group’s topic at the working session

The group chose to share the topic in four parts: scientific research policies, human development, infrastructure and international research environment. In each part, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Lam – representative of the group pointed out the advantages and limitations in the current policies and implementation methods and proposed solutions to the existing limitations.

Group 2 of lecturers and researchers includes: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Quang Huy, Dr. Pham Danh Tuyen, Dr. Le The Dung, Dr. Tran Nguyen Hoang Quan, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Anh, Dr. Nguyen Van Hoang, Dr. Pham Hong Duc and Dr. Le Ha Van. The group presented the topic: “Proposing specific policies and training programs for lecturers and researchers to develop themselves and stay with FE for a long time”.

LR Group No. 2 shares about the group’s topic at the working session

According to the group’s presentation, there are five of the scientific research policies that directly affect the scientific research work of lecturers and researchers. For each of these policies, the group analyzed the strengths and limitations based on the criteria of whether they promote and facilitate lecturers and researchers to participate in quality scientific research.

The group also made some recommendations such as changing the evaluation method based on the ranking/list of research articles; expanding the policy for all lecturers to review based on individual capacity, having a worthy incentive policy for scientific articles of excellent quality…

The group of lecturers and researchers No. 3 presented the topic: “Building research groups focusing on the key directions of FPT Corporation and FE”.

Dr. Nguyen Gia Tri represented the group to present at the conference.

The group defined the research group based on questions and answers about the goal of building a research group, members, number of members, and operating time.

The expectation of the “Research Group” problem that group 3 shared is to be able to create a research culture, expand and develop the team, combine strengths, and carry out breakthrough projects. However, according to group representative Dr. Nguyen Gia Tri, achieving this expectation is facing some difficulties: balancing between teaching, research and other work, ineffective cooperation, not having the same research orientation, geographically separate campuses, etc.

Dr. Nguyen Khac Thanh – President of FPT University, FPT Corporation; Dr. Ho Thi Thao Nguyen – Head of Science Management Department of FPT University, FPT Corporation, together with group representatives and lecturers and researchers present at the meeting, had deeper analysis and discussions on this topic

.

Group representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Bich Hanh shared at the conference

According to the group, FPT University and its member units currently have research centers, creative startup centers, and a number of labs. However, the level of commercialization of scientific research products is weak.

Group representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Bich Hanh shared a number of projects, competitions, and practical seminars in collaboration with businesses that Swinburne Vietnam organized, attracting a large number of students to participate.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Bich Hanh proposed that it is possible to provide guidance, connect businesses for a research group, and strengthen the research brand to make the connection between businesses in scientific research more convenient. The group also pointed out some limitations in business relations activities when not many practical projects have been brought back for teachers and students to participate in and research.

Group No. 4 proposed: establishing a research group, building a scientific brand for the group, attracting businesses to place orders; organize scientific research seminars, support policies for lecturers to connect with businesses, select excellent students, design and organize courses for businesses.

Group 5 of LR received a topic on applying practical problems of businesses to solve with the scientific research force of the School.

Representative of LR group number 5 presented at the conference

The group members proposed that teachers and researchers be exposed to the work process, observe how to do real projects at FPT units, for example in the software sector, to understand how businesses are actually working, thereby teaching and guiding students to participate in scientific research or themselves to have innovations in the way of approaching topics, how to solve scientific problems closer to businesses.

Summarizing the working session, Dr. Le Truong Tung gave a general assessment of the reports of all groups. Dr. Le Truong Tung also shared that FPT University has policies and changes in scientific research policies that show the University’s interest in this activity and affirmed that when conducting scientific research, universities need to determine which areas they want to be strong in.

These exchanges successfully concluded the first R&D Meet 2025 organized by FPT University.
