Ho Xu Xang 2025—a traditional musical instrument performance competition organized by FPT University—takes place on June 17–18 in Hanoi, aiming to spread the love for traditional music and preserve Vietnamese cultural values within the student community.
Organized by the Traditional Music Department of FPT University, Ho Xu Xang provides a vibrant platform for young enthusiasts of traditional instruments to connect, learn, and showcase their musical talents. Through the rustic melodies and rhythms of folk instruments, the competition aspires to preserve and celebrate the beauty of traditional Vietnamese music in modern student life.
The Ho Xu Xang competition, organized by the Traditional Music Department, is dedicated to FPT University students
The Ho Xu Xang competition is open to all FPT University students. Each contestant may register with one traditional Vietnamese instrument (such as zither, flute, moon lute, monochord, pipa, two-stringed fiddle, drum, etc). Participants will perform two pieces: one folk or traditional music piece and one of their own choosing, with each performance lasting no more than 7 minutes. Contestants may use backing tracks and collaborate with other instruments to enhance their performance. The Organizing Committee encourages participants to invest in traditional costumes to earn additional points.
Preliminary round (Long Ban 2) of the Ho Xu Xang competition for the Summer 2025 semester is accepting registrations until June 14. The main event will take place on June 17–18 at FPT University. Outstanding performers will be selected to receive First, Second, and Third Prizes.
Ho Xu Xang is more than just a music competition—it is a journey that connects traditional values with modern life, preserving the essence of Vietnam’s musical heritage.
Preserving traditional cultural values is an integral part of FPT University’s holistic education approach. In addition to organizing artistic platforms like Ho Xu Xang, the university has incorporated traditional musical instrument classes into the official curriculum. These initiatives serve as bridges that allow students to connect more deeply with national cultural identity, nurturing pride and awareness in safeguarding time-honored values through every musical note.
