R&D Meet 2025: Heartfelt sharing on practicalities and scientific research policies at FPT University

In the first working session of the R&D Meet 2025 conference, representatives from department heads and units related to scientific research (NCKH), lecturers, researchers (GV-NCV), and representatives from FPT Group shared their heartfelt insights on the practicalities and policies of scientific research at FPT University.

The actual scientific research activities in 2024 at FPT University were discussed by the department heads, research units, and lecturers – researchers (GV-NCV), highlighting both the achievements and the limitations. Many suggestions and proposals were made by the department heads, research units, and GV-NCV during the exchange session, offering ways to improve and enhance the scientific research activities moving forward.

A notable highlight in the report was the significant increase in the number of research papers published in ISI/Scopus Q1-Q2 journals. Academic events were also organized across a wide range of fields, catering to both lecturers – researchers  and students. The university also implemented internationalization policies in scientific research, such as creating opportunities for lecturers – researchers, staff, and students to attend international conferences and offering short-term faculty exchange programs. These policies have garnered significant interest from lecturers – researchers.

Notably, one of the projects is the AI agents platform, which helps businesses independently develop AI applications to support their operational activities. Dr. Tran The Trung is also collaborating with FPT University on developing a teaching AI agent.

Several problems being effectively addressed include information system management, learning tools, and business support tools.

According to Mr. Phan Truong Lam, these activities pose several requirements: since they need to be deployed widely, the products must be compact, easy to operate, highly reliable, and user-friendly for end-users. Additionally, information security must be ensured, the systems should be scalable and easy to upgrade as the scale increases, and integration should be simple. The technology used must be widely available for easy maintenance and upgrades, and operational costs must be reasonable.

He highlighted the growth in participation in scientific research conferences, organization of research workshops, and publication of papers in prestigious journals. Swinburne Vietnam also presented its vision for 2025-2030, which includes promoting smart technologies, sustainable research solutions aligned with the institution’s mission, organizing workshops to connect businesses with the research activities of lecturers, researchers (GV-NCV), and students (SV), increasing the research output among GV-NCV and students, and developing MBA and Master’s programs.

Mr. Nguyen Nhut Tan – Vice Dean of the Institute of International Universities, Director of Greenwich Vietnam, FPT Group, shared insights about the scientific research activities at the institution, including participation in international conferences and the publication of scientific papers by lecturers, researchers, and students. Greenwich Vietnam has conducted research that provides practical solutions for businesses. It has also engaged in interdisciplinary collaboration with projects involving lecturers and researchers from both IT and business management fields.

The unit’s direction for 2025 is to strengthen research projects that combine the efforts of lecturers and students; focus on topics such as artificial intelligence, leadership and management, and green innovation; as well as publish research papers, participate in conferences, and carry out research projects.

Mr. Le Cong Nghia – Head of the Program Development Department at the FPT School of Business and Technology, shared that while the number of scientific research projects at the unit is still limited, the research fields are diverse, with a combination of science and practical application. In 2025, FSB’s direction will focus on applied scientific research: enhancing the team of entrepreneurial lecturers with policies to promote research activities, increasing the practical application of topics for both FSB and businesses. The plan includes establishing research groups (such as AI, digital transformation, etc.) that combine lecturers and master’s students in IT and Business Management. Additionally, there will be efforts to create opportunities for exchange with international universities and link with businesses to turn consulting projects into research products.

According to the report by Dr. Luong Hoang Huong, the scientific research activities at FPT University, Ho Chi Minh City branch, have shown steady and consistent growth over the past three years

Representing FPT University, Can Tho branch, Dr. Luong Hoang Huong – Head of the Information Security Department, shared that over the past three years, the scientific research activities at the unit have shown consistent and positive growth. Notably, the research activities have attracted a large number of students, with some outstanding individuals now continuing their higher education abroad. Dr. Luong Hoang Huong also summarized the strengths and limitations of the scientific research activities at the unit, emphasizing that the university aims to increase the quantity of research while ensuring its quality. He proposed several directions for the future, including shifting towards applied scientific research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthening links with businesses.

Some issues were raised: lack of connection activities between lecturers and students in scientific research; lack of strong scientific research groups, to have a group, it is necessary to have experts with enough capacity and connection. Setting the goal of scientific research to become the culture of the organization, the group of lecturers and researchers proposed a plan: 3 campuses to create an innovation ecosystem. In terms of technology and innovation: focus on patents, solutions for business reality so that businesses trust to give assignments; in terms of human resources: train human resources for the ecosystem itself; in terms of startups: incubate, encourage and support ideas from students; in terms of commercialization: register IPs, practical solutions from businesses; about the community: contributing to the community through forums.

At the end of the first working session, R&D Meet 2025 reserved time for lecturers and researchers to discuss and propose research policies with FPT University leaders.
