With a record of completing 5 out of 9 tasks, the Trie Hard team won the championship at the FPTU OLP 2014 competition, earning a prize of 1,500,000 VND. The first, second, third, and consolation prizes went to the teams FU-HN, Young and Wild-HCM, Blue-HCM, Pure Water-HN, and Primial Spirit-HN, respectively. The competition aimed to select the core teams for the national round scheduled for September 27.
A total of 25 teams participated in the competition
Three members of the Trie Hard team, who are this year’s champions, Tran Khanh Hiep, Hoang Đinh Quang, and Tran Đuc Minh, all come from Classes 8 and 9. In 487 minutes, Trie Hard completed a total of 5 problems—an achievement highly praised by other participants in the ACM/ICPC university-level competition.
Dr. Huynh Anh Dung, the lecturer in charge of the competition and who directly coaches the FPT student teams, stated that following this competition, a total of 18 teams from the university will continue to participate in the national online ACM/ICPC competition organized by the Vietnam Computer Association on September 27 at FPT University Hoa Lac. FPT University is one of the 10 examination centers set up in 5 major cities nationwide.
According to the team mentor, Nguyen Tien Tuan Anh, a Class 10 FPT student who is new to the ACM/ICPC “arena,” will be paired with the “top team” including Lang Trung Hieu and Ho Vinh Thịnh—two veteran members of this premier technology competition.
Nguyen Tien Tuan Anh is pictured with Tran The Trung, Director of the FPT Technology Research Institute. For Tuấn Anh, September 27 holds significant importance as it marks both the Opening Ceremony for the 2014 academic year for Class 10 students and the national online ACM/ICPC competition.
Despite having an impressive record in city and national informatics competitions from his high school years, Nguyen Tien Tuan Anh is a “newcomer” to the international student programming competition ACM/ICPC. Dr. Huynh Anh Dung noted that Tuan Anh’s strengths are his dynamism and creativity, and the goal of forming a team with experienced members is to provide him with opportunities to learn and develop competitive skills.
Following the national round on September 27, FPT University plans to participate in the ACM/ICPC regional qualifiers in Thailand and Indonesia.
