What is a brownfield site?
Brownfield sites, defined as previously developed land that is not currently in use, can provide construction opportunities for developers along with economic development potential for local communities.
Repurposing idle, derelict, or vacant land and buildings has numerous benefits for developers, the environment, and the local communities within which the land is located.
At FPT University, we ensure that we first consider any new buildings utilizing existing brownfield sites where there have been buildings previously built. This protects green spaces, biodiversity, and flood resistance. The lands to build FPT University campuses were originally industrial land and are now ready for redevelopment.
Part 1. Land for building schools
FPT University was established on September 8, 2006, under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 208/2006/QD-TTg. The first campus of FPT University, FPT University Hanoi, is located at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Km29 Thang Long Avenue, Thach That District, Hanoi, about 30km from the city center. For the past few years, many large corporations have come to Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park to invest in the factories and facilities. But with our aspirations and dreams, we all believe that there will be a future school with beautiful buildings and landscapes among this technological and industrial park.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the Construction Department and the Board of Directors are interested in projects to develop on the east side of the city, which is District 9, and the current high-tech park. Most of District 9 at that time was still a vast reed field.
The land to build the FPT University Da Nang Campus is sandy soil. It is very far from the center of Da Nang city, bordering Quang Ngai province. Not too many Da Nang people knew about this area then.
The land to build the FPT University Can Tho Campus is in the middle of the Mekong Delta. When we got there, this area was listed by the United Nations as an area heavily affected by climate change in Vietnam. It was a fertile alluvial field in the middle of the largest rice granary in Vietnam. Now it is invaded by seawater and saline.
Part 2. Green Buildings
FPT University currently has five campuses across the country, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Quy Nhon, and Can Tho. All campuses of FPT University have unique designs and landscapes that mainly emphasize green architecture.
When stepping into FPT University Hanoi, you will be immediately attracted by the surroundings and green architecture. This is no less than a luxurious resort. With an impressive and unique cubic design, the FPT University Administrative Building, with 7 floors and a total usable area of 11,065 m2, has been highly appreciated and awarded at the 42nd World Architecture Awards.
FPT University Ho Chi Minh City is located in the City Hi-Tech Park. The FPT University campus will occupy a 22,500-square-meter site among the skyscrapers of the southern Vietnamese city.
FPT University Danang will be built on an area of 5.1 ha in the FPT Urban Area. It is the harmonious combination between nature and urbanism, providing a living, learning, dynamic, and creative space. The campus is a cluster of modern buildings closely linked to green space. The building shape comes from the basic square box, using the method of separating and solenching the block, creating a multi-directional motion shape, and at the same time creating a solid-hollow effect for the whole project.
Located at 600, Nguyen Van Cu (extended), An Binh ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, FPT University Can Tho has become an international learning space right in the Mekong Delta that can accommodate the learning needs of more than 5000 students.
