Nearly 1000 international students from 300 teams from more than 60 countries gathered at Ho Chi Minh Campus to participate in the World University Debating Championship (WUDC).

This is the first time Vietnam has hosted a WUDC. Particularly, FPT University led the 2024 WUDC contest with the cooperation of the Australian Education Foundation.
WUDC 2024 was held from December 27, 2023, to January 4, 2024, with the participation of nearly 1,000 international students, judges, and observers from about 60 universities around the world. This is a big event for the Vietnamese debaters and is also an opportunity for Vietnamese students to experience a multinational environment.
By hosting WUDC, Vietnam has a chance to enhance its position on the world debate map. The tournament also promoted the development of domestic debate and helped Vietnamese students access the latest debate knowledge and skills.
In the initial days, nearly 300 teams gathered in the library lobby and hall at FPTU HCM to listen to the contest’s rules and regulations. Next, contestants are instructed to record the content, and the teams are evenly divided into different rooms to prepare for the competition.
Excited for the contest, international students chatted and interacted to relieve the stressful atmosphere. Taking advantage of the free time before entering competition rounds, they also visit FPT University and take photos to save memories.
Throughout the competition, each team was exposed to a variety of diverse issues and challenges in society. Contestants had to maintain confidence and a calm mood when debating with opponents to convince them of their opinions. This was a difficult challenge that required contestants to demonstrate skillful critical thinking and sharp analysis in dialogue and debate.
The debate tournament is organized to encourage talented people to present their opinions. WUDC 2024 is an interesting playground for young people to exchange ideas and learn about each other’s diverse cultures. This is also an opportunity for students to improve their analytical abilities, logical thinking, and ability to persuade in debate. It is also a platform to share ideas, opinions, and solutions with the goal of building a better world.
WUDC is an opportunity for young people to explore diverse perspectives, stimulating creativity and self-development. Thereby, it shows that the role of debate competitions in developing intelligence and improving social skills today is an extremely important value for the young, especially for Generation Z.
