FPT University formally recognises the FPT University Trade Union as the representative body of all its employees – lecturers, administrative and support staff – regardless of gender or nationality. The FPTU Trade Union is a grassroots unit of the FPT Corporation Trade Union, which in turn sits within the Vietnam Trade Union of Science & Technology and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
Legal and institutional basis
FPTU’s recognition of the union rests on Vietnamese law and on FPT’s own governance structure.
- Law on Trade Unions 2024 (No. 50/2024/QH15, in force 1 July 2025), Article 5: Vietnamese employees have the right to establish, join and act in trade unions; foreign nationals working in Vietnam under a labour contract of 12 months or more may join and act in grassroots trade unions;
- Labour Code 2019 (No. 45/2019/QH14): prohibits discrimination at work on grounds including gender, nationality and trade-union membership, and recognises the union as the employees’ representative in collective bargaining and workplace dialogue.
- FPT Trade Union system: the FPTU Trade Union is an affiliated unit of the FPT Trade Union, which represents tens of thousands of members nationwide and is directly guided by the Vietnam Trade Union of Science and Technology.
- Mandate: to care for staff’s material and spiritual well-being, and to protect the lawful rights and interests of lecturers and staff at FPTU; to run emulation, cultural and sports activities that build cohesion.
Union recognition for all staff, including women and international staff
Membership is open to every employee on a labour contract; the FPT Trade Union’s 2025–2030 target is that 100% of contracted employees become union members.

Women’s leadership is visible at the top of the system: the FPT Trade Union is chaired by Ms Ha Tran Thi Thu, and one of FPT Education’s two Executive Committee members, Ms Duong Tran Thuy, is a woman.
Recognition in practice
On 12 November 2025, the FPT Trade Union Congress for 2025–2030 was held at FPT Corporation headquarters with more than 100 delegates representing tens of thousands of members, attended by FPT’s Chief HR Officer and the Standing Vice-President of the Vietnam Trade Union of Science & Technology.

- Representation in governance: the Congress elected a 15-member Executive Committee drawn from member units; FPT Education (which includes FPTU) holds two seats, Mr Binh Huynh Van and Ms Duong Thuy Tran.
- Collective bargaining and dialogue: the union represents and protects employees’ rights through the collective labour agreement and periodic dialogue with management, and monitors implementation of that agreement.
- Management endorsement: FPT’s Chief HR Officer, Mr Huy Chu Quang, described the union as “a companion” that creates a happy and humane workplace – an explicit recognition by the employer.

- Welfare at FPTU: the FPTU Trade Union works with FPT Education leadership on benefits, visits to staff in hardship or illness, and honouring outstanding teaching and research staff.
- Commitments for 2025–2030: recruit new members, train union officers, strengthen women’s affairs, improve inspection and financial transparency, and apply digital tools in union management.
- External recognition: the FPT Trade Union has received certificates of merit for several consecutive years from the Vietnam Union of Civil Servants, the Ministry of Science & Technology and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
