Exhibition “Cung Dan Dat Nuoc (Traditional Musical Instruments)” – The journey back to traditional cultural music of FPT University students

The exhibition space is located at FPT University Ho Chi Minh campus (Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City) with main activities including the display of hundreds of historically valuable traditional musical instruments, the festival of “Hoi lang mua hen” with local artists. Quan Ho performance, Don ca tai tu, Ong Do street, Guqin (Ancient) musician exchange workshop, closing exchange performance program with the participation of many veteran musicians and artists along with lecturers and students of FPT University, students of Traditional Music Department, Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

According to Ms. Vu Thi Kim Yen – Head of Traditional Music Department, FPT University Ho Chi Minh Campus, and also Head of the Organizing Committee, she said that here are exhibits of artifacts collected over 30 years. In addition, many artifacts have been passed down through 2-3 generations and many musical instruments have high value at the present time.

The opening of the musical instrument exhibition week “Cung dan dat nuoc” is a presentation and interaction with Guqin musicians on March 14. The workshop created a lot of excitement when the audience had the opportunity to learn about the Guqin, meet directly with musician Dominic Yin Xiao (隐啸) – an artist with many years of experience playing the Guqin, and listen to sharing stories about his passion and love for Eastern musical instruments.

All lecturers, staff, students of FPT University Ho Chi Minh campus and audiences with a passion for traditional musical instruments can participate in the program. In addition, the students were also personally instructed by the musicians to play the piano, which helped the students have an extremely new experience.

At the end of the musical instrument exhibition week “Cung Dan Dat Nuoc”, the audience was immersed in a musical space imbued with national cultural identity through the performances at the closing ceremony on March 17. Here, everyone can enjoy fashion shows with musical instruments or concert performances by FPT University students and lecturers and students of Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, with the participation of Veteran artists: Meritorious Artist Hai Phuong, monochord artist Pham Duc Thanh, stone zither artist Duy Duc – Tan Phuc, Chau Van group singing artist group.

Many performances were invested spectacularly by the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

After nearly a week of opening and special activities, the exhibition “Cung dan dat nuoc” has successfully closed, becoming a bridge between the young generation and traditional cultural values. In the future, “Cung Dan Dat Nuoc” will certainly return with more attractive activities to preserve and promote the beauty of traditional Vietnamese music.
