Top 5 tips to make your CV shine

In the dynamic labor market, an outstanding educational or working background may not be enough to get the attention of the recruiters. These are 4 tips to make  your CV shine and help you to get into the door of the interview round.

1. Tailor your CV

Ordering your personal information logically to make sense with the position you are applying for is very important. Each job needs different components from employees, you can’t use a one-for-all CV to convince the recruiter to choose you. Tailor your CV, specify your skills, achievements and work experience to prove that you are suitable for the position.

2. Neat presence

Apart from the content, the appearance of the CV is quite essential, too. Design the simple lay out, with easy-to-read font. Don’t forget to align the text. It will get a plus point from the recruiter.

3. Re-read and re-check.

“Rereading reveals rubbish and redundancy.” — Duane Alan Hahn

A lack of attention to detail could outweigh your otherwise perfect CV. Spell-check doesn’t always spot errors and is unable to detect misuse of incorrect words, such as ‘diary’ being mistakenly spelt as ‘dairy’, so it’s always worth asking a fresh pair of eyes to look over and find any last typos for you. On the other hand, re-read your CV several times will help you to improve your way of writing and you will polish it more perfectly.

4. Find your USP

Your USP or Unique Selling Point will help you stand out from other applicants. This is the exact answer for the question “Why do they have to recruit you?”. Having USP means you know yourself very well, too. Self-understanding is always a strength in the eyes of employers, that means your potential in your career is big. Who else wouldn’t want an employee like that?

5. Add your personal branding

Personal branding is an upgrade of USP. When you know your unique strength, show it in the CV, draw your own color. This will make your CV highlighted among thousands of other documents.
